AL WILGUS
Alan Wilgus brings more than twenty years experience in organizational performance improvement and large-scale work systems change. His work focuses on improving business performance by helping companies strategically focus, align and integrate their total organization. He works with senior executives to identify the gaps between requirements and current results, clarify strategy and then align business, work and human systems to deliver superior performance. This alignment often takes the form of work process reengineering, implementing team-based structures, executive coaching and whole-system redesign. He is a published leader in the development of the Conference Method of Redesign as a means of adapting to today's rapidly changing business environment.
He has consulted to a diverse group of clients including General Dynamics, Springs Industries, Merck, Federated Systems Group, Landmark Communications, Inland Steel, U.S. Marine Corps Systems Command, Wellman Industries, Shell Oil, Deloitte & Touché, Electrolux, Allina Health System, and the Consumer Financial Network.
Alan is a seasoned trainer having designed and delivered tailored programs in leadership, management, consulting skills, change management, problem-solving, interpersonal skills, group dynamics, facilitation, team development skills, conference design, and whole-system architecture.
He has experience as a line manager and internal consultant. As a human resources manager he was responsible for a major organization redesign involving the transition of a traditional manufacturing organization of 1700 employees to a high-involvement work system. He helped forge a more cooperative relationship with a hostile union, implemented a "skill-based" compensation system using employee design teams, and designed an adult basic education program that served as a national model. The initiative was the subject of a Personnel Journal cover story (September '91).
As a career Army officer he helped pioneer the application of organizational development methodology within the military. He taught on the faculty of the Army's Organizational Effectiveness School and Center training both military and civilian consultants.
Alan has presented for the American Management Association and at professional conferences. He has published several articles on organizational development and was a key contributor to "Whole-System Architecture", "Team Management: A Guide For Trainers" and "The Advanced Team Guide" published by the Miller Howard Consulting Group. Alan has a masters degree in Management and Human Relations from Webster University in St. Louis.
