ANDRE AUW, PhD

Jerry Eppler, PhD

Andre Auw, PhD, has a Masters Degree in Theology, A Doctorate in Human Behavior from USIU in San Diego, California, and post-doctoral work at Loyola-Chicago, and Duquesne U. in Pittsburgh, in Counseling. His professional life began as a Catholic priest giving retreats to nuns and priests primarily, as well as functioning as a counselor. Deciding to focus on a career in counseling, he left the priesthood, and joined the staff of Dr. Carl Rogers at WBSI a think-tank in La Jolla, Calif.

Out of this organization came the Center For Studies of the Person, which he co-founded along with Dr. Carl Rogers, and which he served as Director. The Center became famous for innovative programs and projects, as well as management consulting. He has taught at universities in the United States and consulted with organizations in Europe, Japan, and Southeast Asia. His most recent publications are: Gentle Roads to Survival, Aslan Publ., and The Gift of Wounding, Aslan Publ.

He began an innovative approach to counseling and consulting that has been helpful and rewarding. He invited clients to spend two days with him, affording ample time to create a trusting relationship. They started with relaxing exercise for the body, nature walks, the use of visualisation, meditation, the sharing of meals and personal dreams and the enjoyment of humor. Thus, body, mind and spirit were employed to attend to personal concerns and the healing of the whole person. It appears that this in-depth sharing is far more helpful than merely verbal and rational ways of problem solving. For executives and managers, this method enables them to experience personal healing and stress reduction as well as renewed confidence in their ability to function efficiently in their organizations.
